By 2026, AI is not just about text generation but a powerful tool for creating “story-driven brands.” Use ChatGPT to develop unique names, emotional marketing concepts, and trending accessories (for example, adding a helmet or scarf to a toy can significantly boost conversions). The main secret to success on Etsy today is adding “living” emotions to products through AI prompts and visualizing enhanced layouts that look more expensive and professional than competitors.

Today I want to talk about artificial intelligence and how it can be used for a handmade business. Of course, it’s impossible to cover everything in one article, but I will show a few specific examples — especially useful for beginner stores.

Let’s take an Etsy shop as an example — deliberately not Ukrainian, but American, which is one year old. A woman knits wonderful toys that don’t sell very well. Just the perfect candidate for analysis. Conversion is poor, sales are weak, bad mockups, no options, incorrect background, no banner. The name Loops Forever is boring. And the logo isn’t the right one.

‍Perhaps your shop is somewhat similar to this one. In any case, it’s better to learn from others’ mistakes.‍

Title, brand, banner, and logo — please, ChatGPT

I love using ChatGPT. I can’t say that I’m an expert at it, but it personally helps me a lot.‍

I made such a request: want to come up with a brand for my new shop selling knitted toys on Etsy, here are examples of my toys, suggest a shop name, give 20 options. I specifically uploaded a few photos of the toys.

‍What did AI generate? At first, of course, it praised — the toys are very cute, warm, with a cozy slightly vintage style. AI always compliments you, which is nice, but says nothing substantial. And then — 20 name options. Among them were frankly branded, scalable ones. For example, I really liked Patch and Post Studio. Plenty to choose from.

‍Next, I asked to come up with a name with a story — Story Driven Brand, which works very well on Etsy. AI immediately suggested a concept: your toys look like heirlooms passed down. Not just cuteness, but a story, memory, warmth. And a slogan: “We don’t just knit toys. We knit warmth. We knit childhood. We knit memories.” Sounds warm, memorable, and looks premium.

‍Then I requested ideas for a banner and logo — specific options from the list. I received several banner options: three toys together on a neutral background, vintage heritage in warm beige-brown tones with the logo in the center. And logo options: minimal text, a logo with a needle and thread, a circular silhouette of a bear, monogram, a logo with a heart made of thread, vintage stamp. Plenty to choose from.

‍Under the banner, AI also suggested creating a premium segment version — with mockups of all toys from the shop on a proper background. And that’s already interesting.

Technical details, accessories, and trends

Next request: give 5 tips on technical details to add to make toys more trendy — color, shape, size, filling.

‍The AI started explaining: the trend towards minimalism, slightly longer paws, fewer details, a smoother silhouette, embroidered name on the paw. Honestly, reading that was quite dull — it’s hard to visualize from the text. So I wrote: now show these toys with the already added details.

‍And that’s where it got interesting. The same patched teddy bear, but now with a scarf, in a trendy color, on a soft blanket. The owl looks completely different. The little dinosaur — in a pleasant muted green, the exact color that’s trending now, with properly long legs. The difference is obvious.

‍Next, I asked: what accessories can be added to the dinosaur to boost conversions — and immediately asked for visual examples, without explanations. I received several options: a heart with a name, a scarf, a bandana, a small helmet. Such accessories will 100% increase sales — it’s no longer just a toy, it’s a character.‍

Emotions in the product — it's important

I believe toys should evoke emotions. I wrote: I noticed that this teddy bear is somewhat emotionless, it doesn’t evoke any feelings. Make it more emotional.

‍AI drew a teddy bear with tears. I say: but it’s a Valentine’s Day gift, with a heart — what is this even about.

‍And then I got a completely different teddy bear. Added cheeks, different eyes, real emotions. It sells completely differently. The difference is obvious.

‍By the way, this works not only with toys. I sometimes do the same with figurines or wooden crafts. Very often, people make animals or people, but without emotions. For example, you upload a rooster — and suddenly he’s like: cluck-cluck! Emotions really help with sales. Everyone knows it, but not everyone does it.

And another way to use AI — for yourself

I believe that for a successful business, it’s important to maintain a good mood and be able to see any situation from a positive perspective. So I will show one more example of using AI — not for business, but for myself.‍

I gathered various comments about a typical “bad” situation: my best listing on Etsy was blocked, I received a few negative reviews, my second store was closed, competitors from China copied my ideas, marketplaces are taking all the profit. And I asked: help me find 20 positive aspects of this situation. Tell it as a story.

‍By the way, I sometimes do this myself when I’m in the car, overwhelmed with emotions — I speak everything aloud via dictation, send it, and then at home, I read and choose the story that suits me. It helps a lot.

‍What did AI produce? Blocking the listing is a signal: it was noticeable, it was seen, it was selling. No one blocks what no one notices. You are no longer dependent on one listing — this is diversification through pain. Negative reviews are a free audit, the most honest focus group analysis. Closing the store is a release: you can create a new brand, change positioning, relaunch more strongly. China only copies what sells — this is confirmation of the idea’s value. They copy — which means you are a trend-setter, you are ahead. Commissions are pressing — it’s time to build your platform: a website, an email database, Instagram. Sales were before, but now there will be a strategy.

‍One of these points of view might turn out to be your own. The one you can accept — and the situation will immediately start to look different.

Summary

Artificial intelligence has a lot of criticism — and justified. But there is a positive side: it can provide new ideas and a fresh push. Changing technical details, adding accessories, adding emotions to products, coming up with a brand, finding positives in difficult situations — it can do all of that. And that is already quite a lot.‍
